Missing Velocity: A Year Without Laguna Seca

There’s a deep ache that settles in when a tradition gets paused, especially one that fuels your passion like Velocity Invitational. After hearing that this year’s event was postponed until 2026, I can’t lie: it stings.

For me, Velocity at Laguna Seca and the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion aren’t just car events—they’re the highlight of my year. They’re where art, history, adrenaline, and storytelling collide in a perfect blend of engines and elegance. They’re where I feel most inspired as a photographer, an artist, and frankly, just as a fan of all things fast and beautiful.

Some of my most unforgettable moments covering this event with Greenlight Television have happened on that track and in those paddocks. I had the surreal experience of working alongside Adam Andretti as live on-air talent, capturing the behind-the-scenes energy in real-time. I saw Mario Andretti slip into a modern F1 car, full suit and all, ready to light up the track like only a legend can. It was historic. It was emotional. And it was everything I love about motorsports. I seem to run into Travis Pastrana frequently over the years whether it be the first time I captured him double flip at the X-Games, piloting Miss Geico's P1 offshore boat, drifting a rally car at these events or simply being a cheer Dad at competitions his kids compete in. I don't really get star struck but I feel the same enthusiasm and respect for the cars as they do.

What draws me in year after year is more than just the speed. It’s the lines, the design, the soul in every car. From the crisp angles of exotics to the rich patina of vintage race legends, I see these machines as rolling works of art. There’s a quiet conversation between the details: hand-hammered bodywork, faded sponsor decals, the scent of aged leather, and fresh race rubber. Each tells a story.

This blog is a small tribute to that feeling, shared through a few of my favorite moments behind the lens at speed events where I could appreciate the art of the cars. Until Velocity returns in 2026, I’ll be chasing that magic wherever I can find it, but there’s truly nothing like Laguna Seca in the fall sun.

Here's to what’s been and to what’s coming.
